  • Cheater bike option for some CCS classes??

A guy at work just showed me a pic of his latest Craigslist find....
3,700 miles on it. Not a scratch on it. All original & running. $1,000 !!

    An MZ Skorpion
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MZ_Skorpion

    660cc, liquid cooled, single. 48bhp
It's actually a Yamaha Raptor engine and has lots of build-up options. Potential of 70bhp?

    Thoughts??

Eh, I like the SV650 for the easy and cheap parts, tons of info available, and known reliability. Personally, quirky cheater bikes aren't for me haha.

What CCS class would this fit in? LW?
You should see me in a headsock !

We had one race in CCS MW before. Wasn't as fast as you think.
Wait a minute. Look at those shifty eyes. That devious half-smile. Those kazoo-kissed lips.

another very interesting MZ is the MZ 1000S

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MZ_1000S

Read the company history...they started production in 2003, so this had good performance back then.
But, I don't think too many made it here to the US. Company went bust in 2013.

parallel twin with 117bhp, 72 ft lb torque, fully adj suspension, 120\180 tires....but weighs just over 500 lbs.

One of our TCIH guys raced one back in CCS around 2008ish. There used to be a mz scorpion race series back in the day. Definitely not a cheater bike being a single. It would be neat but they arent really very competitive against an SV650.

A lot of years ago when I had my KTM 690, I couldn't really find a good competitive spot for it in CCS.

AHMRA Sound of Singles is where it's at for bikes like this. It's super expensive though, you have to buy a membership. So I never got in it just for my KTM.

Edit: the base model MZ kind of reminds me of the Yamaha SRX 600. A bike I always like even though it's slow

                            I raced one in 1998.

If it made 42HP, I'd be surprised. It was kind of heavy. It was best raced against other MZ Scorpions, and they paid well for a few years.

I don't remember it being any kind of a nemesis for the EX500 or FZR400 in 1998. And the SV650 was much better in 1999.

well...so much for that idea...it's kind of a neat bike, though.

the guy I work with that bought his MZ said that the single cylinder has TWO carburetors! so, he has some interesting work ahead. lol
