    Do your research on the 03. Thrte are some oddball things like a different subframe and a quesrtionable crankshaft that year...

      The subframe is the best part 1 inch higher than the other years.

      I've only heard of the crank breaking above 80 HP.

          The weak crank is something on all 2nd gen SVs. Get the flywheel lightened and it should solve most of the problems.

                    Did the SV in GB look better or worse when you saw it in front of you? I'm usually disappointed when I see a bike with my own eyes vs a pic in craigslist.

                    Suddenly I see 100 things I couldn't notice in the pictures.

                      I saw it in person, after the fact. I think he got a good deal as long as forks are good n straight. Everything else seemed great.

                        Sure it was rough around a few of the edges but still easily worth $1500.

                        The rough parts will mostly end up as part of the race bike because they're at risk and more expendable.
